UnitedHealthcare® Contract Update

What to Know About Your Insurance Coverage

At AdventHealth, your health and access to high-quality care are at the heart of everything we do, and we know how important it is to keep seeing the clinicians and specialists who know you, understand your health history and have earned your trust. That’s why we want to share that UnitedHealthcare (United) has terminated its contract with AdventHealth, which may affect the coverage of your care. We are working with United to reach a new agreement so you can continue getting the care you count on, without disruption.

We understand changes to your health coverage can be stressful, especially when they affect the clinicians you trust. We want to keep you informed and work toward an agreement that protects your access.

Key Details of this Potential Change

  • Our current agreement with United ends on December 31, 2026. If we do not reach a new agreement by then, AdventHealth hospitals and clinicians will be out-of-network starting January 1, 2027.
  • This negotiation affects United members with Medicare Advantage, Individual & Family (Exchange), Commercial and Medicaid plans.
  • Right now, nothing has changed. You should continue accessing AdventHealth care as usual at this time.
  • Our priority is to protect access to care for you and your family by reaching an agreement that protects your access to top-tier care, without unnecessary delays or barriers.
  • If we do not reach an agreement, you may have to pay more to receive services or see AdventHealth clinicians. We do not want this to happen and will continue to advocate for you.

Why We’re Negotiating This Contract

As a faith-based healthcare organization providing whole-person care, AdventHealth is working toward an agreement that supports the continuity of your care. We are working in good faith with United to reach a new agreement following their termination of our contract. We are not seeking rate increases above inflation. We’re seeking contract terms that protect continued access to high-quality, whole-person care.

  • Question: What are AdventHealth and United Negotiating?

    Answer:

AdventHealth and United are negotiating the terms of their agreement with a focus on protecting access to timely, medically necessary care. AdventHealth is not asking United for increases above inflation. Instead, we are seeking contract terms that address unnecessary delays, denials, prior authorization requirements and other administrative barriers that can disrupt care and take valuable time away from your care experience.

For AdventHealth, this negotiation is about changing practices that can make it more difficult for individuals to get the care their clinicians recommend. These administrative requirements can delay treatment, create additional burdens for clinicians and care teams, and ultimately affect access to care.

  • Question: What types of United insurance plans are impacted by this negotiation?

    Answer:

This negotiation affects members with United Medicare Advantage, Individual & Family (Exchange), commercial and Medicaid plans.

  • Question: Which United services and clinicians are impacted by this negotiation?

    Answer:

All clinicians and services across all Florida locations will be impacted if United does not agree to fair terms under a new contract by December 31, 2026.

  • Question: When does the current contract with United end?

    Answer:

If an agreement is not reached by December 31, 2026, AdventHealth will be out-of-network on January 1, 2027, and most people with United insurance will have to pay a higher out-of-pocket cost for services or be forced to find new clinicians outside of AdventHealth.

  • Question: Should I reschedule upcoming appointments or stop scheduling future appointments?

    Answer:

No. At this time, nothing has changed. You can keep your current appointments and continue scheduling new appointments with AdventHealth clinicians and at AdventHealth locations as usual.

  • Question: When will the negotiation be resolved?

    Answer:

We are working right now to reach a fair agreement, and our goal is to resolve the negotiation as quickly as possible. A new contract must be established by December 31, 2026, or AdventHealth will be removed from United’s network.

  • Question: What happens if an agreement is not reached and United removes AdventHealth from my insurance network?

    Answer:

If AdventHealth is removed from United’s network, most patients will have to pay more out-of-pocket to continue seeing their AdventHealth clinicians. It’s important to contact United to understand what your out-of-network benefits are so that you can make decisions that are right for you and your family about where and how you get the care you need.

Call United at the number on the back of your insurance card to express your concerns and understand your options. We also encourage you to learn what your out-of-network benefits are and consider exploring new insurance plans that include AdventHealth during open enrollment. Ask your Human Resources team what other plans are available that include your AdventHealth clinicians and locations.

  • Question: What if I have a medical emergency on or after January 1, 2027?

    Answer:

Regardless of whether your insurance plan is in-network, you will always have access to emergency care at AdventHealth. If you or a loved one is experiencing a medical emergency, please go to your nearest ER.

  • Question: What if I’m pregnant or receiving complex treatment or critical care for a chronic illness that requires care on or after January 1, 2027?

    Answer:

We know the possibility of losing in-network coverage for your care is concerning, especially for those with ongoing and complex care needs. United is legally required to allow some individuals to continue seeing their current AdventHealth clinicians at in-network rates for a certain period, even if an agreement is not made by December 31, 2026. You will be encouraged to apply for Continuity of Care through United. United will review applications and determine eligibility on a case-by-case basis. Only United can review and accept your application. Please call United at the number on the back of your insurance card to learn more.

  • Question: Who can I contact with questions?

    Answer:

We encourage you to call United at the number on the back of your insurance card. United can help you understand what the impact will be on you and your family based on your specific benefits plan if AdventHealth is removed from your plan’s network.
