Our fellowship program is a dedicated year of training and education to prepare you for your role as an advanced practice provider.
Grow Your Skills in Critical Care Medicine
Critical care medicine is a rewarding and challenging medical specialty dedicated to treating patients with life-threatening conditions. APPs interested in this field will work in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) alongside a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals using advanced technologies and treatments to monitor and support these complex patients.
Critical care medicine involves caring for patients with severe illnesses or injuries, including severe infections, respiratory failure, heart failure, stroke, trauma and multi-organ failure.
Prospective Critical Care Medicine APPs should be prepared for a fast-paced, high-stakes environment where quick, informed decision-making and advanced medical knowledge are crucial. This program is ideal for individuals who are passionate about providing complex care and thrive in a collaborative, high-intensity setting.
What To Expect From Our Critical Care Medicine Fellowship
In our post-graduate critical care fellowship program, APPs are offered a comprehensive and structured training experience designed to enhance your skills and knowledge in managing critically ill patients. Some of the key benefits of our program are below.

Advanced Clinical Skills
Gain experience performing advanced procedures such as intubation, central and arterial line placements, echocardiography, chest tube insertion, paracentesis, thoracentesis and bronchoscopy.

Use of Advanced Technology
Gain proficiency in advanced monitoring and supportive devices such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis machines, mechanical circulatory devices and ECMO.

Specialized Knowledge
Receive specialized education in pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of conditions requiring critical care, including the latest guidelines and evidence-based protocols where applicable.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Work with a multidisciplinary team of intensivists, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and other dedicated health care professionals. Plus, improve effective communication skills.

Research and Education
Access opportunities to participate in or conduct clinical research and educate patients, families and peers on complex medical issues. Formal teaching opportunities also available and expected.

Leadership and Professional Development
Build leadership qualities for managing complex cases and leading the health care team as an independent, autonomous provider and establish connections with experts and peers in the field.
About Our Program
- Clinical Curriculum

Our clinical curriculum is designed around four core rotation blocks:
- Medical ICU
- Surgical ICU
- Neuro ICU
- Cardiovascular ICU
Electives are available outside of time spent in core rotations. Electives include, but are not limited to:
- Cardiology
- Infectious Disease
- Nephrology
- Palliative Care
- Radiology
- Didactic Curriculum

Our didactic curriculum will run concurrently with core rotation blocks. Didactics will be delivered on Wednesdays of each week and will also include time spent with our CCM medical fellows during their lecture time. Examples of didactic material include:
- Medical ICU: Management of sepsis and septic shock, respiratory failure and DKA
- Surgical ICU: Management of complex vascular and transplant surgical patients, open abdomen, massive transfusion protocols
- Neuro ICU: Ischemic and hemorrhagic CVA, ICP management, seizures
- Cardiovascular ICU: Myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, post-CABG, advanced supportive therapies
- Curriculum Adjuncts

- Simulation: Biweekly simulations will be utilized as an adjunct to our didactic curriculum. The simulation topics will also run in conjunction with topics covered during core rotations

- Current AG-ACNP/ACNP or PA students currently enrolled in an accredited program
- Requirements Prior to Program Start

- One-page statement of interest
- Transcripts from graduate education program — if you are a current student, send transcripts reflective of status within the program. Minimum GPA of 3.5 required.
- Copy of BLS and ACLS certifications
- Three letters of recommendation addressing clinical experience, clinical knowledge, critical thinking and professionalism — specifications for letters of recommendation found on application

Fellows are selected based on demonstrated academic and clinical achievement, commitment to practice in a critical care environment, motivation, communication skills, overall maturity and growth mindset.
Upon acceptance of the online application, applicants must be available for an interview with program staff at AdventHealth. All travel-related costs are at the expense of the candidate.
Successful applications will meet all hiring requirements of the AdventHealth Medical Group Human Resources Department.

After completing the AdventHealth Medical Group APP Fellowship, participants will receive a certificate of completion issued by the program, signed by the program directors and medical directors.

We welcome your application for our fellowship program in critical care medicine. Online applications for the net cohort will run from January 2 to April 4, 2025. Applicant interviews will be conducted from late April through mid-June, with applicants selected and notified by mid-June. This fellowship program has an anticipated start date of November 3.
